Kenelm Guinness began his motor racing career, in the 1907 Isle
of Man Tourist Trophy.
In 1913 & 1914 he was a works driver for the Sunbeam team,
along with Henry Segrave. He won the 1914 Isle of Man Tourist
Trophy, raced over 600 miles on two days.
In October 1913, driving a 4.5 litre 6 cylinder Sunbeam at
Brooklands, with team drivers Dario Resta & Jean Chassagne -
World Records were set at time intervals from 1 hour upto 12
hours, & distance intervals from 200 upto 1,000 miles. The
1 hour record was 107.95mph, and the 1,000 miles at 90mph
average.
In 1922, at Brooklands, he set a new outer circuit lap record of
121.54mph, as well as world records over 1/2 mile, 1km, 1 & 2
miles, with a flying start.
His World Land Speed Record was set on 17th May 1922, at
Brooklands, driving a Sunbeam, fitted with a 15.395 litre V-12
'Manitou' engine of 350hp.
He achieved 129.17mph over 1 Mile, and the Record was set at
133.75mph over 1 Km.
In August 1922, he won the JCC 200 Miles race at Brooklands,
driving a Talbot-Darracq, & in September, the Coupe des
Voiturettes at Le Mans.
Driving a Talbot 70, he won the Swiss G.P. on 15th June 1924, and
the JCC 200 miles at Brooklands on 20th September 1924 driving a 1.5
litre supercharged Darracq.
